Conference Details

Canfly XIV will take place at the Banff Centre, Banff, Alberta.

A description of the Banff Centre can be found here:

Accommodation is NOT included in the Conference Registration Fee and must be booked directly at the Banff Centre.

To ensure that you obtain the discounted group rate (see below) for the CanFly meeting use the following link: Canadian Drosophila Research Conference

You can also call directly (toll-free: 1-800-884-7574) and refer to the group rate for this meeting by referring to “CanFly” or “Canadian Drosophila Research Conference”.

The room rates are as follows (deadline for room bookings: May 25, 2017):

Standard Room, 2 bed - double (single or double occupancy, beds are double): CAN $160.

Note: the web page may indicate only one bed for this room type - this is incorrect.

Superior Room, 1 bed - king (single or double occupancy): CAN $180.

Superior Room, 2 bed - queen (single or double occupancy): CAN $180.

If you are planning to have extra occupants to your room (i.e., triple or quadruple occupancy), rates increase by $20 per added person (no extra bed will be provided). When you book a room, please let the Banff Centre know who your room mate will be (if applicable).

After May 25, 2017 rooms may still be available at the stated group rate, but availability is not guaranteed. Typically, rooms go fast, so please plan ahead and book early if you wish to stay at the Banff Centre.

You will also be charged a facility fee of CAN $15 per person per day.  This fee includes: campus-wide Wi-Fi, phone calls across North America, access to Sally Borden Fitness and

Recreation facilities (including a large swimming pool), parking, access and borrowing privileges at The Banff Centre library and archives, and access to complimentary arts and programmed events when available.

There are other accommodation options in Banff, but we highly recommend staying at the Banff Centre, as it provides very competitive pricing, a beautiful location and the convenience of being directly at the venue.

For all Meals: Make sure you have your room key card with you, as the card will be scanned to allow you access to the dining area (relevant if you share a room - everybody needs a card).

Included in the conference fee for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Breakfast is buffet-style and will be served in the Vistas Dining Room from 7:00 - 9:30 A.M. For the day of departure, you can either have breakfast at the Banff Centre or venture into Banff. If you opt for having breakfast at the Banff Centre, it will cost you CAN $19.75 + GST.

How to get to the Banff Centre:

By air: The closest hub is Calgary International Airport (YYC). From there, several shuttle services can take you directly to Banff. We recommend using “Banff Airporter” (go to:, and click “BOOK NOW”). We have arranged a group discount of 15%. Proceed through the reservation process and type - CANFLY - in the Promo Code section on the final payment page to receive the discount. The discounted return fare is currently CAN $108 (including GST, subject to change). This shuttle will drop you off directly at the Banff Centre if you select “Banff Centre” from the “Dropoff Location” menu. Shuttles leave hourly during peak times and run from 10:00 to 22:30 (return trips from Banff start at 5:00).  Check the Airporter webpage for pickup locations.

If you are driving from YYC, you should plan on the trip taking 90 min to 2 hours depending on weather and traffic conditions.

Note that for 2017, admisison to national parks will be free marking the 150th anniversary of Canadian confederation.
